Update on The Healing Barn

As you can see, we have been very busy at The Healing Barn.  The summer of 2010 was unbelievably hot and humid.  I love the heat but this year took it all out of me.

The end of July this year we rescued 5 horses and turned around and 3 days later rescued 3 more.

It seems like rescues’ are more frequent  in the late summer.  Maybe it’s because people are out and about more and notice potentially neglected horses – the ribs particularly.

Folks also notice that horses have not been left out in the pastures to graze, full well knowing its way too hot to be locked in a stall with all the doors shut when the air temperature is 90+ degrees.

We experience both of those situations this year.

Luckily for the horses we rescued people made calls, and were complaining that SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING PLEASE.

Luckily the Humane Society in our area is right on top of things.  5 came to us and 3 to another barn.

The three at the other barn were surrendered by the previous owners, which means they were able to be adopted as soon as they got some weight on them.

This was not the case with the five we rescued.

The man we rescued these horses from had 23 total animals taken from them in July and they are still in court.

This leaves us unable to get these horses adopted, so we wait.  The hard part on us is the cost.

The Humane Society helps with what they can, but to this day there is  $6,000.00 that is owed. With winter coming we can only pray we get a donation of hay or money to help fund this rescue.

You ask how do we fund this effort?

We are a 501c3 which means anyone donating to us can write this off  on their taxes.

Any and all donations are a huge help.  The majority of the money to support and feed these horses comes from my full-time income.  75% of my income is spent  supporting The Healing Barn.

I love what I do and would not change it for a minute.  We have started a couple of businesses that we hope will help with the rescues thehealingbarn.com and sponsorahorse.org but until that happens we will work as hard as it takes.  Visit our sites and learn more about us.

That’s it for now.

Go with peace,

~Nancy
