The Healing Barn Helps Combat Veterans with PTSD

The Healing Barn in Millbury, Ohio has opened it’s doors to Combat Veterans with PTSD.  This is a long time dream of mine that has finally come full circle.  In the past the time was taken up with working full time and now that I have retired I have time to work with any Veteran with PTSD that would like to come work with the rescue horses at The Healing Barn.

The sessions are free of charge and is two fold.  The session can be structured or it can be more free to learn about the horses how to care for the horses and their personality’s.

Some facts about horses:

Horses are prey animals and Humans are predators.  For that reason horses constantly assess humans when they make contact.  They immediately start to read your body language.  The horses tend to pick up on the undercurrent of the unspoken things we bring into the arena.

Much like bearing a physical load on their backs, horses take on their clients emotional trauma.  Some of our horses have needed downtime after a session because of the projected pain is so great.

Equine assisted therapy is a hands on method that leans heavily on the concept that people learn best by doing.

“Horses mirror us”

“Horses are the masters at reading body language and respond to nonverbal cues clients send, in much the same way our spouses, children and co-workers react.”

We are a non-profit rescue barn that works with people from abused, post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction, and domestic abuse to name a few. The barn is a safe place for those in the community to seek healing through the horses.  If you are interested in signing up go to thehealingbarn.org and click on the tab for Combat Veterans and fill out the application.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Until we meet,

Nancy founder/owner of The Healing Barn
